About Us

Chris Winchester was born in Southern Illinois within a stones throw of Carlyle Lake. It is here, Keyesport Il, that Chris was 1st introduced to fishing by his father and friends. Chris and family relocated to Cannon Falls, Mn when he was about 8 years old. Through his younger years he fished all over the state of MN pursuing Trout, Bass, Panfish, Pike , Walleyes, Catfish and Carp, yes, Chris loved to catch Carp. Chris had caught several large catfish in his teens but it was not until he got out of high school that he really caught the Flathead Fever. Over the next decade Chris pursued Flatheads , Sturgeon and Blue Cats anywhere and everywhere he could.

 Chris was featured in many outdoor publications such as the In Fisherman, Outdoor Life, Sports Afield and many, many local newspapers. Captain Chris helped produce two hard covered books published by the North American Outdoor Group as well. On top of print, Chris spent a fair amount of time in front of a camera for several major outdoor filming companies (although he never enjoyed his time on film). 

In the early 2000's, Chris switched gears a bit and started to fish every Bass tournament he could find. Chris enjoyed this immensely, even cashing a check on occasion, yet he missed the freedom of just going fishing for fun and started to transition back to the multi species angler that he loved to be. In 2012 Chris took a job managing an outdoor store in Red Wing, MN and slowly his dream life was coming together. In 2018, Chris, along with his Sister and Brother In Law (Randy and Tracy Schaefer) purchased Everts Resort in Hager City, WI and Chris moved into a cabin within 100' of the Mississippi River. Now, the childhood dream is starting to develop into reality. Just one more piece was needed.

Finally, in the spring of 2022, Chris attended the training necessary to become a licensed Master Captain by the United States Coast Guard.  The official title being: 25 Ton Master of Inland and Great Lakes Waters including an  OUPV for Near Coastal with Towing. 

The last piece of the puzzle was finally in place after 40 plus years of dreaming. 

Captain Chris Winchester is excited to start this journey and to share his knowledge of fishing with all.
